What is nutritional yeast?
We’re so happy you like it!
Hi, Dianne,
Nutritional Yeast is a flavor enhancer used in a lot of Vegan and Raw Food dishes because of the great nutrition it adds to your food. Here’s the information from the website of the brand that we use:
http://bragg.com/products/b…
We found ours locally at Sprouts. There is a store locator on that site, under the PRODUCTS tab.
I hope this helps!! ;)
Leftover from the making of molasses. Tastes like Parmesan cheese.
Thank you for the information.
You can usually use the bigger jar instead if it calls for the four side. I only have wildside jars and use them for everything! You just can’t go the other way…if a recipe calls for the wildside, it likely won’t fit in the fourside. Hope that helps!
does this have to use the 4 sided jar or can i get away with using the 5 sided jar?
thanks
I just got my Blendtec and am not a cook but follow a no meat/no dairy/no oil eating program so am having to start cooking. Would I be able to take this recipe and just leave out the oil? That’s what I’ve done with most other recipes.
You can use the WildSide+ jar, you’ll just want to increase the recipe by 1.5 or 2 times. :)
Do you have to use the yeast?
Hi Lynn, congratulations on your new Blendtec! We haven’t tried this recipe without oil and would usually suggest substituting it with another oil – (flaxseed oil, avocado oil, etc.) or butter but since you’re not eating dairy or oil and you’ve had success with leaving it out of other recipes, you should probably do just that! If you try it, let us know how it turns out!
No, but it does add additional flavor and nutrition.
It’s meant to be room temperature but can be adjusted to fit your liking! When tossed with hot noodles, it will get warmer, obviously, which is what we did. :) Hope that helps!
So this is meant to be cold?
We’re so glad you enjoyed it!
We thought this was delicious! My husband isn’t a huge fan of lemon, so I might cut back on that a bit next time and substitute with water, even though I loved the lemon. I made homemade pasta and since we are not vegans, we topped everything with lots of grated parmigiano reggiano cheese and cracked black pepper. I used my smaller twister jar and it worked great! Yum!
Can I put it in the fridge overnight without the avacado sauce getting black?
Can I put it in the fridge overnight without the avacado getting black?
Yes, you can!
We’re so happy you enjoyed it!
We really enjoyed this simple and flavorful, whole food recipe.
i just did this recipe… SUCCESS.. it tasted so freaking good.. oh my god
I have a question, what about left over does the sauce get darken ?
I made this and tossed it with zucchini noodles! So delicious!
Lynn, you can replace the oil in most vegan sauce/cheese sauce recipes with the water from cooking pasta, if you are cooking pasta, and that usually thickens it nicely. It may have a less creamy taste, but it should be closer than just omitting the oil.
