I’ve tried it twice, the first time was with some organic apples I bought at Whole Foods, not sure which kind. I never use "tart" apples, like Granny Smith (just not to my liking). I tried again using McIntosh apples, as I still had leftover ingredients. Both times I found it to be lacking as a "smoothie" – same brown color, same odd texture.

One of my favorites! I like to use Cashew Apples (lucky to have a South American Market nearby), as the texture is much creamier. Ditch the banana in favor of canned sweet potato + Irish sea moss. The sweet potato compliments the cinnamon flavor and is loaded with vitamin A. Irish sea moss is a tasteless thickener and adds minerals. I add a few dried camu camu berries (or an eighth of frozen lemon)— the acidity makes the apple flavor really shine! I use a frozen dragonfruit in place of ice, as the tiny seeds give a barely noticeable crunch which mimics apple pie crust crumble. I’ve made this a few times for Thanksgiving and everyone loves it.

McIntosh will be too mealy and watery, you might not like it. Honey crisp would be ideal. It is not too tart but also not too sweet. Sometimes they are pretty large and you would likely just use one in this recipe. Hope that helps with another go at it.

Made this yesterday and followed the recipe exactly – it turned out brown (not the pretty cream color in the photo) and I just didn’t like it much. The texture and consistency are more like whole juice rather than a smoothie, which I did not like. I found the flavor lacking, maybe I used the wrong kind of apples, I don’t know. Will not make this one again.
