How to Maintain your Blender Jar
A little over a year ago, we shared with you tips on how to clean your blender jars. Due to the many comments on that post, we've decided to give you some more tips on the best ways to maintain your Blendtec blender jars.
Clean your jar after every use.
In the blender:
- Use your Spectacula (with the Twister jar) or your Spoonula (with the FourSide and WildSide* jars) to scrape out all the delicious food you've just made.
- Fill the jar with 1 to 1½ cups water and 1 to 2 drops of soap. Secure the lid.
- Press "Pulse" a few times.
- Rinse, drain, and dry.
By hand:
- Use your Spectacula (with the Twister jar) or your Spoonula (with the FourSide and WildSide jars) to scrape out all the delicious food you've just made.
- Wash in the sink with soapy water.
- Use a nonabrasive dish cloth. (Using abrasive products, such as Scotch pads and nylon brushes, can scratch the jar.)
- Rinse, drain, and dry.
In the dishwasher:
- Use your Spectacula (with the Twister jar) or your Spoonula (with the FourSide and WildSide jars) to scrape out all the delicious food you've just made.
- Fill the jar with 1 to 1½ cups water and 1 to 2 drops of soap. Secure the lid.
- Press "Pulse" a few times.
- Place the jar on the top rack of your dishwasher. Do not run on the heat setting.
Note: Lemon-based detergents can etch the jars, making them look cloudy.
How other customers wash their jars:
- Fill the jar with 1 to 1½ cups water and 1 to 2 drops of soap. Secure the lid.
- Select "Batters." (This cycle is great for cleaning your jar after making thicker blends, like bread doughs and batters.)
- Rinse, drain, and dry.
- Rinse your jar under warm running water.
- Fill the jar with 1 to 1½ cups water and 1 to 2 drops of soap. Secure the lid.
- Press "Pulse" a few times.
- Rinse, drain, and dry.
- Clean your jar immediately after use, don’t let food sit in it.
- Before each use, turn the blade with your hand from the bottom of the jar by spinning the drive shaft.
- If the jar hasn’t been used over an extended period of time, you may want to put warm water in it and let it sit for 15 minutes, dump it out and then turn the blade with your hand to ensure it’s not stuck.

Are use my blender every day and wash it right away afterwards with soap and water and a few pulses. And then I dried it with A microfibre cloth. Yep my blender jar looks like it’s… Well… Been through the blender! There is a ton of scarring ( for lack of a better term) on the inside which concerns me.
Hi there! We’ve had our blender for almost 2 years and have made around 260 smoothies. Lately we notice that lately our blender is sounding… Rough is the only way I can think to describe it. Like it’s laboring. We use the wild side jar. Does it need lubrication or something? We clean it after each use.
You mention a “non-scratch” sponge – can you elaborate? I feel like there is a lot of wiggle room in that description and I don’t want to ruin my jar. My jar definitely has a film on it that I can scratch off with my nail, but the simple water/soap/dishrag combo won’t touch.
Hi Anita,
We recommend a non-scratch sponge so as to prevent “scratch” marks on your jar. If using just water, soap, and a dishrag is not getting the job done, we have several other cleaning tips that may help. Check out our FAQ’s and go to question #10 under the “Jars” section. It will provide several other tips on how to get your jar clean; the tip for using Lemi Shine® Original should be very helpful.
