Green Juice - A Headache Helper

green juice - a headache helper

By Heather Kinnaird

I happen to be a migraine sufferer, and have been for quite a few years. There is nothing worse than having a full day planned and then not feeling up for it. Some headaches are worse than others, but they all ruin the fun. To help my body heal in a more natural way, I began looking for foods that help alleviate migraines. They may not all help all the time, but I usually feel better just knowing that my body is getting the vitamins and minerals it needs.

Cucumber and pineapple are two of the best foods for helping fight headache pain. Cucumber adds much needed hydration and pineapple contains bromelain, which has been used for centuries as a natural source of pain relief. For an added boost, add sliced banana to this already delicious whole fruit juice; the magnesium has a calming effect on the body, which comes in handy even if you don’t suffer from headaches.

Green Juice Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup coconut water
2 green apples, cored and quartered
½ cucumber, sliced
4 kale leaves, stems removed
1 cup of pineapple cubes

Instructions

Place ingredients in the order listed into blender jar. Blend on "Whole Juice" setting, or blend on Medium High (speed 6 or 7) for 50-60 seconds.

If you prefer a colder juice, freeze the pineapple before using, but do not dilute the juice with ice cubes.

I never would have thought to use cucumbers, pineapple, and bananas to help with headaches, but that totally makes sense. My partner gets lots of migraines so maybe I’ll try making this for him. Great recipe, Heather!
