Ingredients

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 medium onion quartered
  • 8 oz. pancetta cubed
  • 2 carrots roughly chopped
  • 2 stalks celery roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp. fresh thyme chopped
  • 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 lb. green split peas cleaned
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. kosher or sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Add garlic and onion to WildSide+ jar and secure lid. Press “Pulse” 4-5 times until ingredients are chopped up.
  2. In a large 3-quart saucepan, sautee garlic, onion, and pancetta until onions are translucent and pancetta is cooked.
  3. Add carrots, celery, and enough water to cover vegetables to WildSide+ jar and secure lid. Press “Pulse” 10-12 times until vegetables are chopped.
  4. Strain the water and place the vegetables and all remaining ingredients into saucepan with the onion, garlic, and pancetta.
  5. Bring to a boil, then turn to low and let simmer 1½-2 hours or until peas are soft, adding more water if needed. Remove bay leaves.
  6. Separate 2 cups of the soup and put in clean WildSide+ jar and secure lid. Select “Sauces.”
  7. Pour back into soup and mix in to make it a bit thicker. Serve.

    Omit the pancetta. I never liked ham in my split pea soup, anyway.

    But if you must you might try a smoked or baked tofu (maybe add extra salt?).

    Remove pancetta and use vegetable broth :)

    simply use vegetable broth and use the morningstar (or other brand) of bacon, cooked well done! That should do it…

    Replace pancetta by using either some mushrooms or vegan "beef" broth. A little bit of Bragg’s also helps give it that meaty flavor. I’ve made vegan split pea soup, and at the very end, sprinkled bacon bits in it. They’re actually vegan!
