REVIEWS

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've had the original since 1999 I'm sorry to read the negative reviews. I have the original Kitchen Mill and just now replaced the gasket with the stick-on one from Blendtec. The gasket cost 10 bucks with shipping! It does not work like the original. I have to put masking tape all around the mill to keep the flour from blowing out. I can't use it in my kitchen any more. Mine is super loud, so loud it hurts. I use industrial ear plugs. Also, these mills get your flour very hot-over 100 degrees. Freeze the grain first or lose nutrition. From these reviews I will not be replacing my mill with its Blend Tec version. I'll probably go with a KoMo because of the 12 year warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 21 years and going STRONG! I got my mill 21 years ago, and it is still going strong. I got it for free when I got my Kitchen Champ mixer/blender. It has been used to grind bushels of wheat, corn, barley and other grains over the years. While it isn't quiet, it is faster and better than the electric stone grinder that I used to use. I love that I can adjust how fine the grind is. If I have any complaint, it is not easy to get it clean. I usuallly use a blowdryer to get all of the dust out. But, after 21 years, that isn't much of a comlaint! I don't have any other appliances that have lasted that long (I dropped the Kitchen Champ and killed the computer after 11 years).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great For a While We purchased our Kitchen Mill 6 years ago and have used it regularly. I make bread several times a month. More than once we have ground a 20 lb bag of wheat in one session. It's been a beautiful tool in our kitchen and it does a wonderful milling job. It grinds quickly and the grain is very fine. I've given the mill as a gift twice and recommended it to everyone. Two years ago I noticed the seal around the pan was giving out and the room was taking a flour bath when in use, so we replaced the seal. At replacement I noticed a tiny crack in each of the side latches. The new seal and cracked latches meant that we had to hold the unit together to prevent flour from coating the house. The cracks have grown over time with use. One crack now runs right up to the filter section and the unit is useless. It's a fundamental design flaw of poured plastic. I'm so disappointed and am now shopping for a new mill. If you plan occasional use, I highly recommend the Kitchen Mill. If you need a work horse, move on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My blendtec kitchen mill exploded I have had my current blendtec kitchen mill for just over three years. This was my third blendtec kitchen mill. I do not register my mills for warranty as I use them to grind small dry wood samples for analysis. My previous mills have jammed and the motors burned up. Something happened to my current mill while in use this morning and it literally lifted up off the cannister and landed upside down. I am fortunate to use the unit on a table considerably lower than counter height so the motor housing did not hit me in the head. I'm sure this was just a crazy fluke and will be promptly ordering a new unit, my fourth in 8 years. This unit grinds better and costs less than anything available in my industry. Like others have said about flour dust (wood dust for me), it blows out from between the motor and canister. I did not have this problem with my earlier mills but have with my last two. Either the gasket or the latches have changed as my last two units haven't locked down like the previous units. I recommend using it outdoors or indoor with an exhaust fan running. I also recommend wearing safety glasses, a dust mask and hearing protection as the unit is as loud as a jet engine and particles have a tendency to fly out when the hopper is almost empty. I would like to see the gasket/latch issue addressed and it would be great if there was an easy way to be able to unjam the milling chamber and clean in there. As you can see in the picture, my mills get heavy use. Like others, I use compressed air to blow out as much residue as possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nothing to complain about! My mom got me this for my birthday, and I was so excited! I have not purchased bread for weeks, now. It's been great to be able to mill my own wheat and bake my own super-delicious bread. It makes flour and stores upside down (perfectly compact for my teeny apartment!) And I think people who expect there not to be a slight flour mess with any wheat grinder would be crazy. So far it's done the job well. I have no complaints, and it's no louder than an air popper. Yay for wheat grinders!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean and not as loud I’ve used it for my first time, did 12 cups of wheat straight through. Did not have powder flying all over the place-the way the grinder top seals to the container helps , and it was more quiet than other grinders. It packs up so small to stick on a shelf neatly. My only wish was that it would come with a little brush to brush out the flour in the grinder. But not a big deal-can just get a brush somewhere. Very happy with the grinder.

We no longer have the older recipe books but we have several if not all the recipes on our website. The Kitchen mill did not come with a recipe book but with a manual which you can find under product guides. http://www.blendtec.com/support/guides
