I've had the original since 1999
I'm sorry to read the negative reviews. I have the original Kitchen Mill and just now replaced the gasket with the stick-on one from Blendtec. The gasket cost 10 bucks with shipping! It does not work like the original. I have to put masking tape all around the mill to keep the flour from blowing out. I can't use it in my kitchen any more.
Mine is super loud, so loud it hurts. I use industrial ear plugs. Also, these mills get your flour very hot-over 100 degrees. Freeze the grain first or lose nutrition.
From these reviews I will not be replacing my mill with its Blend Tec version. I'll probably go with a KoMo because of the 12 year warranty.

21 years and going STRONG!
I got my mill 21 years ago, and it is still going strong. I got it for free when I got my Kitchen Champ mixer/blender. It has been used to grind bushels of wheat, corn, barley and other grains over the years. While it isn't quiet, it is faster and better than the electric stone grinder that I used to use. I love that I can adjust how fine the grind is.
If I have any complaint, it is not easy to get it clean. I usuallly use a blowdryer to get all of the dust out. But, after 21 years, that isn't much of a comlaint! I don't have any other appliances that have lasted that long (I dropped the Kitchen Champ and killed the computer after 11 years).

Well, I loved this when I first bought it.
When I first bought this I loved it. It does everything it says it does. I have owned it for several years but used it here and there, not constantly. Last year it started blowing the flour into the sealed top of the mill and it was shooting out the vents on the sides. I called Blendtec and it was out of warrantee and seemed that it would cost a lot to fix it. I took it apart and saw that the sealant used to glue the motor to the plastic housing had come apart. I cleaned it well and did continue to use it with it blowing flour all over when in use. Now the housing for the motor has a crack in it. I guess I am disappointed that it was not more durable. I thought for sure I would only have to buy one grain mill in my life. Now I have to buy another one. I just wish it was more durable. I took good care of it, did not drop it, etc. and it still lost its seal and started malfunctioning.

Service for mill
The clips on the grinder are not up to par. They break easily and then you WAIT forever for the repair team to get to your unit! Maybe it's because it was under warranty and not worth their time!

Works OK, but using it is a strugle
I've had my mill since 2006. I just ordered the third gasket! The gaskets don't last, and the two unit halves don’t fit together well. I seems the gasket was an afterthought added to the prototype. Without a good seal between the motor unit and the bin, the mill shoots out flours at nearly supersonic speed! The foam “filter” placed at the motor exhaust port doesn’t do much to keep the product inside the unit either. I can’t use my mill indoors because if I do, I have to clean the entire room.
The other reason I can’t use the mill indoors is it sounds like a jet plane ready for take off. If I had a decibel meter, I would let folks know how loud this thing really is. I literally take it to the garage, don the ear blocks, and grind the grain outside.
Even on the coarsest setting (the dots on the “adjustment” panel provide no real notion of the fineness of the mill), the mill is very fine. With a stone grinder, you can produce everything from cracked grain to the finest XXX mill.
I stored the unit in the garage for while and bugs invaded the works. The bin was clean, as was the bottom of the motor, but A LOT of material accumulates inside the mill that you can’t remove. Did I mention I clean this thing with compressed air (like at a gas station)? And even then, material is left behind. I know this because I had to crack it open to clean it after the bugfest.
This machine will make a flour from wheat berries and other dry, non-oily grains. If you have a need for that task, this mill will work. Just don’t plan on doing it indoors without hearing protection, and budget for replacement parts.
Finally, it’s clear that the new manufacturer, Blendtec, makes blenders and the mill appears to be a product afterthought. On this very review form, I’m asked to state “how I use my blender the most” and “how many blends do you currently have on my machine” which is puzzling given this is not a blender.

Great For a While
We purchased our Kitchen Mill 6 years ago and have used it regularly. I make bread several times a month. More than once we have ground a 20 lb bag of wheat in one session. It's been a beautiful tool in our kitchen and it does a wonderful milling job. It grinds quickly and the grain is very fine. I've given the mill as a gift twice and recommended it to everyone. Two years ago I noticed the seal around the pan was giving out and the room was taking a flour bath when in use, so we replaced the seal. At replacement I noticed a tiny crack in each of the side latches. The new seal and cracked latches meant that we had to hold the unit together to prevent flour from coating the house. The cracks have grown over time with use. One crack now runs right up to the filter section and the unit is useless. It's a fundamental design flaw of poured plastic. I'm so disappointed and am now shopping for a new mill. If you plan occasional use, I highly recommend the Kitchen Mill. If you need a work horse, move on.
