We live in Canada where winters are very cold and by the time spring rolls around, we are extremely excited about warmer weather! With warm weather, of course, comes cool treats and I love to use my Blendtec to make our own smoothies and popsicles without added sugar.

My kids love being involved with making them, and they like the popsicles just as much as the store-bought variety that have a lot of unhealthy ingredients added to them. They make a great after school snack and the perfect summer treat!

My favorite way to make popsicles is to use a simple smoothie recipe and pour the smoothie into popsicle molds! My kids love this too, because they get a smoothie right away while waiting for the popsicles to freeze.

We used blueberries and strawberries this time, but you can use whatever frozen fruit you have on hand (my husband likes pineapple and mango). Using milk and Greek yogurt makes for creamy popsicles with protein. You’re packing these delicious treats with nutrients rather than sugar! Of course the great thing about a simple recipe is that you can add to it: chia seeds, hemp seeds, and spinach are some of my favorites to sneak in without changing the taste!

Ingredients

½ cup milk
½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt
1 banana
1 cup frozen berries

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to blender and blend on Smoothie setting. Pour into popsicle molds and freeze for approximately 6 hours, or overnight.
  2. This recipe makes enough for 4 popsicles (with a little left over, to enjoy as a smoothie!)
  3. If you don’t have your own popsicle molds, you can make these with popsicle sticks and little bathroom sized paper cups or an ice tray. The mixture may be thick enough to keep the popsicle stick upright while freezing, but if the stick tips over, you can cover the cup in plastic wrap and pierce it with the popsicle stick to keep it upright until frozen.
