St. Patrick’s Day is coming soon, and the holiday is a great time to show off your Blendtec blender by making some fun and creative recipes for a get-together with your friends. What would a St. Patrick’s Day party be without crème de menthe, Jameson Irish whiskey, Guinness beer, and Bailey’s Irish cream? I’ve incorporated these traditional St. Patrick’s Day libations in some great recipes for entertaining. While these recipes contain alcohol, you can adjust them to be alcohol free.
Lucky Leprechaun Milkshake
3 c vanilla ice cream
1½ oz green crème de menthe*
1½ oz white crème de cocoa*
2 ice cubes
4–6 Andes chocolate mints, chopped (for garnish)
Add ice cream, crème de menthe, crème de cocoa, and ice cubes to FourSide jar and secure lid. Select “Ice Crush.” Serve in chilled glasses. Garnish with chopped Andes mints. Makes 2 servings.
*For an alcohol-free milk shake, substitute mint chocolate chip ice cream for the vanilla ice cream and substitute 3 tbsp milk for the alcohol.
Guinness Blender Ice Cream
1 c Guinness beer*
1 c whole milk
1 c sugar
½ tsp vanilla
5 egg yolks
2½ c heavy whipping cream
Mint leaves
Bring beer to boil in saucepan over medium-high heat; cook beer until it is reduced by about half. Set aside and allow to cool. Add milk, sugar, and vanilla to WildSide jar, and blend on Speed 1 for 10 seconds. Remove lid insert, and add egg yolks one at a time while gradually increasing blender speed to Speed 5. Blend until eggs are fully incorporated and mixture turns custard yellow. Press “Pulse” or “X” to stop blender. Add mixture to saucepan with beer, and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour mixture into ice cube tray, and freeze until solid. After cubes are frozen, add cubes and heavy cream to WildSide jar. Select “Ice Crush.”
For soft ice cream, serve immediately. For firm ice cream, pour mixture into container and freeze for 1–2 hours before serving. Garnish with mint leaves. Makes 4 servings.
*For an alcohol-free ice cream, substitute Guinness beer with dark, nonalcoholic beer (e.g., Kaliber, made by Guinness) and 1–2 tablespoons molasses. (The molasses will help compensate for the lighter flavor and thinner texture of dark, nonalcoholic beers.)
Blended Irish Car Bomb
3 c vanilla ice cream
3 oz Guinness simple syrup, divided* (see recipe below)
2 oz Bailey’s Irish cream*
1 oz Jameson Irish whiskey*
3 tbsp milk
2 ice cubes
2 oz dark chocolate, chopped
Add ice cream, 2 oz Guinness simple syrup, Bailey’s Irish cream, Jameson Irish whiskey, milk, and ice cubes to FourSide jar and secure lid. Select “Ice Crush.” Pour into chilled glasses. Garnish with chocolate and remaining 1 oz Guinness simple syrup. Makes 2 servings.
*For an alcohol-free version, make the simple syrup with ½ cup dark, nonalcoholic beer (e.g., Kaliber, made by Guinness), 1 cup sugar, and 1 tablespoon molasses. Replace the Bailey’s Irish cream with Irish cream flavored coffee creamer, and replace the Irish whiskey with 1 extra tablespoon milk.
Guinness Simple Syrup
½ c Guinness beer
1 c sugar
Bring beer to boil in saucepan over medium-high heat. Add sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved and mixture has thickened. Cool mixture completely before using.
