Ever wonder why Blendtec blending jars are square? To understand the answer, imagine you’re a strawberry. And you’re resigned to the fact that you’re about to become a smoothie.

If you were dropped into a round blending jar, you’d just get pushed along in a circle, like a super-fast merry-go-round. That’s not so bad for you, the strawberry. But it’s definitely not good for the smoothie.

Now imagine getting dropped into a Blendtec square jar. In short, you’d be doomed.

Rather than being chased around and around by the blade, you’d be flung against one of the flat sides of our square jar. Inertia would carry you up the side of the jar until you reached the top of the smoothie mix. At this point, you’d turn around and head back down, right into the business end of the blades. Bye-bye, strawberry. Hello, delicious smoothie.

About

I'm the Director of Engineering at Blendtec. I've been with Blendtec since 2006. Part of what makes my job so fun is our great group of creative, clever, dedicated engineers. I love to engineer products that people use every day—products that people use to achieve their health goals, and sometimes make decadent treats, too!

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. We love to play games, go on hikes, read, watch movies, and cuddle. Most nights we have healthy smoothies made with our Blendtec blender. Weekends are the perfect time for whole wheat pancakes and crepes. Our kids have come to associate the sound of the blender with a healthy treat!
