Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why does the blender blade spin but the ingredients do not blend?
    • You are experiencing cavitation. This is the result of too much cold within the blender. Increase the amount of liquid and/or decrease the amount of ice or frozen ingredients. Whenever you experience cavitation, do not shake or rock your blender. Stop the blender and add a small amount of liquid and re-blend.
  2. Will the blender blend vegetables and fruits into drinkable liquids?
    • Yes! However, the blender is not an extractor, so you may need to add liquid or ice to reach the consistency you desire.
  3. Can I make hot soups in my blender?
    • Yes, if you are willing to run the blender for 3-4 minutes to allow the friction inside the jar to create heat. Not the most efficient use of energy. A better method is to add boiling water to the jar, blend, then serve or blend and then heat in the microwave in a suitable container.
  4. Why does my blender stop before the ingredients are completely blended?
    • Your blender has pre-programmed cycles that are timed. Select a higher button for longer blend cycles.
  5. What is the size of the mixing bowl?
    • Bowl capacity is 4 quarts. With the extended lid you can make 12 lbs. of dough.
  6. Is the dough that is riding on top of the dough hook being mixed?
    • Yes, it is kneading. If you are concerned, stop the mixer, clean the hooks then restart the mixer.
  7. How long does it take to knead the dough?
    • Once all the ingredients are in the bowl, the kneading process can be completed in minutes.
  8. Can I mix other recipes other than what is in the manual?
    • Yes, you can mix any recipe. However, you may need to adjust times and speeds to meet recipe requirements.
  9. How large is the blender jar?
    • Half-gallon, or 64 oz.
  10. Are the blades in the blender attachment wet or dry blades?
    • Your blender is designed to work excellently on wet or dry ingredients. There is no need to change blades.
  11. Does the blender grind wheat?
    • Yes. For best results add wheat 1/4 cup at a time, emptying the jar after 2 cups have been added. Wheat grinds at a higher temperature in the blender jar than when using the Kitchen Mill. To get a very fine grind and to keep the nutrients, always use the Kitchen Mill
  12. How fine or coarse does the mill grind?
    • From bread flour to pastry flour. If you grind popcorn you can get cornmeal consistency.
  13. Is the Kitchen Mill UL Listed?
    • All Blendtec equipment is listed by ETL to UL standards.
  14. How fast does it grind?
    • It can grind 1 1/2 lbs. of wheat a minute.
  15. What can I grind with the Kitchen Mill?
    • You can grind any bean, legume, or grain except coffee beans, as long as they are dry. You can not exceed 15% oil or 18% moisture. If you use the blender jar, the oils from coffee beans may stain the jar.
  16. Why won't my bread rise?
    • Yeast may be old. Replace with fresh yeast.
    • Liquid may not be warm enough (100' - 110'). Liquid should be hotter than luke warm, but not too hot to touch.
    • Liquid may be too hot (above 115'). Liquid should not be too hot to touch.
  17. Why does my bread rise but then drop?
    • You may have too much liquid. Check the flour to liquid ratio.
    • Too much time may have elapsed during the rising process.
    • You may have too much dough in the bread pan.
    • The bread pan may be too wide.
  18. Why does my bread crack on the sides?
    • Your bread may have rised too fast because of too much yeast or too high of rising temperature.
    • You may have added too much flour. Check the flour to liquid ratio.
    • The dough may have dried out during the rising process.
  19. Why is my loaf lop-sided?
    • Uneven spacing in the oven.
